Do you need a quick and easy way to create a website to share your research, projects, course materials or programs on the web? Instructional Technology will be conducting a website development camp August 9th, 10th, and 11th showcasing the wonders of WordPress – the college’s web publishing platform.
Each day there will be a morning (9:30-11:30) and afternoon (1:30-3:30) session covering the same material and all interested faculty, students and staff are welcome to attend. Spaces will be limited to 12 participants per session and there is no need to attend at the same time each day. The workshops will include the following topics:
August 9th Setting up a site (9:30 -11:30) or (1:30-3:30)
- Creating an account
- Creating a site
- Choosing a theme
- Customizing with plugins and widgets
- Planning layout and navigation
August 10th Working with media (9:30 -11:30) or (1:30-3:30)
- Uploading your own images/videos/audio
- Using media from other sources
- Displaying media
August 11th Writing effective content (9:30 -11:30) or (1:30-3:30)
- Writing for the Web vs. writing for print
- Best practices for effective content
- Search engine optimization
- Improving your SEO
