What is it?
Etherpad is a collaborative word-processing tool that allows users can edit a document together in real time.

How Does It Work?
You can use a free public “pad” by clicking the “Create a new pad” button on the Etherpad. A new “pad” will open and the user can invite others by email to join in editing the document.
Things to Consider
AppJet, the company that produced Etherpad has been purchased by Google. Whether or not the service will remain available is yet to be seen. The source code for the software has been released so that it can be developed by those that wish to.
Uses as an Instructional Technology
This technology could serve as a collaborative tool more efficiently than most wiki sites. in combination with a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) application like Skype, users could talk with one another and edit in real-time.
