What is it?

Polycom is one company that provides video conferencing capability for the institutions using its services.  Polycom offers various products providing varying levels of video and voice collaboration.

Video Conferencing systems are popular within business and increasingly within academe.

How does it work?

Users, separated by distance, are brought together through joint video cameras and projection systems.  Each person or party can see and hear the other as if they were in the same space.

Cost. These systems, while robust, are generally expensive.

Uses as an Instructional Technology

Users can use this technology to connect with colleagues separarated by distance.  This allows collaboration at a distance.
