What is it?
A VoiceThread is a web-based, collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to leave comments in 5 ways – using voice (with a mic or phone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Once created, a VoiceThread may be shared with friends, colleagues, classmates, etc. directly, embedded in other websites, or exported to an MP3 or DVD for a fee.

Who uses it?
Students may use it to create a group presentation that other classmates and instructors may comment on. How does it work?
Users create an account for free at Voicethread.com and then click on the ‘create’ button. From here you can upload multimedia for your slideshow and insert comments. When finished, you can link friends, classmates, and colleagues to your creation.
Things to consider before using VoiceThread
- If you are only interested in creating a slideshow, consider using Microsoft Powerpoint or Keynote.
- Keep in mind that if you allow your VoiceThread to be public and comments are enabled, virtually anyone can create responses.
Uses as an Instructional Technology
- Use as a space for group projects where group members can comment and collaborate on the final product as it is created.
- Use as a space to create class lectures that students may post questions and comments on.
